About this postcard

The view looks through the towering red sandstone fins of the Garden of the Gods toward a broad snow-streaked mountain rising against a pale blue sky, with green scrub and a pale dirt path in the foreground. The park's gateway formations of red Lyons sandstone lie just west of Colorado Springs, and the peak behind them is Pikes Peak, the 14,115-foot summit that gave the city its identity as a resort and health destination. The Garden of the Gods was donated to the city in 1909 by the family of Charles Elliott Perkins on the condition that it remain free to the public.
