The image reproduces Rembrandt's portrait of a man with curly hair and a mustache, holding a magnifying glass against a dark background. The painting belonged to the Altman Collection at the Metropolitan Museum of Art, the bequest of Benjamin Altman that brought old master paintings and decorative arts to the Met in 1913. S. Miller's note to an art department contact in Madison describes an afternoon at the museum, with only the sculpture seen and the paintings saved for a return visit.
