About this postcard
A color view of a two-story Greek Revival plantation house with a deep double gallery of white columns, framed by bare cypress trees and a foreground of blooming pink azaleas, with a woman in a pink hoop-skirted period dress standing on the lawn. The printed caption identifies it as the ante-bellum Rene Beauregard house serving as the Chalmette Visitor Center. The house, built in the early 1830s for René Beauregard, stands within Chalmette Battlefield, site of the 1815 Battle of New Orleans, and today serves as the battlefield's visitor center in Jean Lafitte National Historical Park.
