About this postcard
The Renville County Court House in Olivia, Minnesota, stands behind a lawn and a curving walk. The three-story masonry building has a tall central tower topped by a dome, hipped roofs with small dormers, and a columned entrance portico. Its tower and portico made it a recognizable landmark for the county seat. Renville County was organized in 1866 and named for Gabriel Renville, a Dakota leader. Olivia has been the county seat since 1879, and the courthouse served as the county's main public building in a region of prairie farms.
