About this postcard
A hiker in a yellow shirt and dark trousers walks a narrow trail that tunnels through a dense stand of blooming rhododendrons, their pink blossoms filling the foreground and framing the dark tree trunks. The card names the scene as the Rhododendron Trail in the Great Smoky Mountains National Park, a park established in 1934 along the North Carolina–Tennessee border and famed for its spring displays of Catawba rhododendron. The photograph was taken by Thompsons of Knoxville, the Tennessee city that serves as a gateway to the park.
