About this postcard

The printed caption identifies this long red-brick, castle-like riding hall as the home of the Culver Black Horse Troop at Culver Military Academy. Crenellated parapets and twin towers flank a large arched entrance, and a crowd of spectators and mounted riders gathers at the base of the building across a broad green lawn. Culver Military Academy was founded in 1894 on the shore of Lake Maxinkuckee. Its Black Horse Troop, a mounted unit in full dress uniform, became a familiar sight at presidential inaugurations and parades in the early 20th century.
