About this postcard
The Rivermont Avenue Baptist Church in Lynchburg, Virginia, presents a large brick Gothic Revival facade. A tall crenellated corner tower anchors the front, with a smaller battlemented tower, a rose window, and tall lancet windows; a low crenellated entrance wing stretches across the foreground, and bare trees flank the building. The church stands on Rivermont Avenue, a late-nineteenth-century residential boulevard above the James River, and its castle-like battlements and pointed arches reflect the Gothic Revival taste common in American Protestant church design of the period.
