About this postcard
A tree-lined residential boulevard, Rivermont Avenue in Lynchburg, Virginia, with a grassy parkway and a wide sidewalk leading toward a row of brick and stucco houses with red tile roofs, porches and striped awnings; a streetcar approaches along the tracks at left. Rivermont Avenue was laid out in the 1890s as Lynchburg's premier residential street, lined with Queen Anne, Colonial Revival and later bungalow homes, and was served by electric trolley lines connecting the suburb to downtown. The view is typical of the tinted halftone 'street view' cards issued in the first two decades of the twentieth century.
