Rivermont Bridge and D Street Viaduct, Lynchburg, Virginia, circa 1942

About this postcard

A long viaduct with concrete piers and steel railings sweeps diagonally across the view, identified by the printed caption as the Rivermont Bridge and "D" Street Viaduct in Lynchburg, Virginia. Wooded hills dotted with the houses of the Rivermont neighborhood rise behind it, and a large cylindrical water tank sits in the low ground beneath the span. The viaduct carried Rivermont Avenue over the railway tracks and low ground that separated the hilltop suburb from downtown Lynchburg, and the Curt Teich production code "2C-H416" dates the printing to about 1942.
