About this postcard
The view looks west along a broad gravel drive curving through a grove of tall shade trees in Rivermont Park. A small frame pavilion and benches sit among the trunks at left, with a mass of reddish shrubbery at right. Rivermont Park was laid out in the late 19th century as the centerpiece of the Rivermont section of Lynchburg, a residential development on the bluffs across the James River from downtown. By the time this card was mailed, in October 1911, the park served as a shaded public pleasure ground for the neighborhood. The sender, Ella H. Stone of Floyd Street in Lynchburg, used the back for a short note to a correspondent in Saugus, Massachusetts.
