About this postcard
The view looks across the water toward the Riverside Hotel, a large white resort building with three red-roofed towers and a long veranda, flanked by smaller red-roofed outbuildings and trees along the shore. A wooden dock and a small sign reading "Riverside Hotel" stand at the right. The St. Clair Flats, the low islands and channels where the St. Clair River opens into Lake St. Clair, were a summer resort area in the early 1900s, known for fishing, boating, and steamboat excursions. The message on the back follows a traveler's trip through the Flats, with a stop at Mackinac and a long ride along the lake shore.
