A sandy road or path runs between slender birches toward the water at Middle Beach on Moosehead Lake. The beach and the wooded far shore of Maine's largest lake fill the background. By the early 1900s Moosehead was a busy summer resort: visitors came by rail to Greenville and crossed the lake on steamboats to hotels and camps along the shore. The sender, who signed himself Robert, offered only a line calling it a "Lovely place" and dated the card September 3, 1905.
White border at bottom with handwritten message; undivided back era; writing on front.
No postmark, stamp, or address on this scan; handwritten message on front dated Sept. 3/05 ("Sweet Marie = Lovely place. Robert"). Undivided back ('This side is for the address.'), printed in Germany for H.C. Leighton Co., Portland, Me., No. 1463. Chromolithograph era, circa 1905-1907. Light foxing/toning on card stock.
