About this postcard

A crowded bathing scene at Rock Lake, a popular swimming pool reached by Stop 12 on the St. Albans streetcar line outside Charleston, West Virginia. Bathers fill the water and the sandy beach, with a diving tower at the far end, a floating raft packed with swimmers, and a long two-story bathhouse with a red roof at right; frame cottages and rocky bluffs line the far shore. Such trolley-accessible pools and amusement parks were staples of West Virginia summer recreation in the early 20th century.
