About this postcard
Color view of the Niagara Gorge below the American Falls, with the massive Rock of Ages boulder in the foreground, the rushing Niagara River, and the spray-shrouded cliff where the Cave of the Winds attraction was entered; a light footbridge spans the gorge behind the rock. The Rock of Ages was a landmark promontory in the gorge, and from the 1840s onward visitors descended behind the falling water at the Cave of the Winds, reached by wooden walkways and bridges. Both features were altered or destroyed by rockfalls and later engineering work in the early 20th century.
