About this postcard

A long wooden covered bridge with a red-brown siding and shingled roof carries a dirt roadway across a broad, calm river; a fenced lane leads from the foreground to the bridge portal, with bare spring trees framing the view and houses and a second, iron truss span visible beyond. The card names the structure as Rocks Bridge at Haverhill, Massachusetts, the covered crossing associated with the city's Rocks Village area. Long timber covered bridges of this type were common New England river crossings in the 19th century, and the scene preserves the rural approach road and railings typical of the period.
