About this postcard
The view looks across the Susquehanna River toward the long multi-arch Rockville Bridge, with a tree-shaded bank, a small building and a moored boat in the foreground and low hills beyond. Built by the Pennsylvania Railroad and opened in 1902, the bridge is a 48-arch stone masonry structure about 3,820 feet long that carried four tracks of the railroad's main line across the river north of Harrisburg. As the caption boasts, it was regarded as the longest and widest stone-arch bridge in the world and remains in railroad service today.
