About this postcard

A rocky glen near Binghamton, New York: a stone ledge at left, dense trees and undergrowth, a small stream running over stones at the bottom, and a rustic wooden footbridge crossing the gorge at right. The Southern Tier's steep, wooded hills and glens were favorite scenic subjects for local view cards in the early 1900s, when rail and trolley excursions carried townspeople out to such spots. The card was sent to a household in Waverly, New York, just across the state line. Signed Mike, the note asks after Ethel's health and urges a Sunday visit to Ethel's farm, hoping this time the recipient can come over and be seen.
