Layered limestone ledges slope into the blue water of Lake Erie, with dense green trees growing along the top of the rock shelf. The caption places the scene in Ohio's Lake Erie Vacationland, the western basin shoreline near Sandusky and Marblehead where glacial-cut limestone forms low cliffs and wave-washed shelves. Lakeside, on the lake, was a Chautauqua camp, and the sender mentions attending classes and lectures at a camp called "The Chautauqua of the Great Lakes."
