About this postcard
The card shows the great stone towers and catenary cables of the suspension bridge spanning the Ohio River at Cincinnati, with a sternwheel steamboat passing beneath and the city's downtown skyline, including a domed tower, along the far bank. Built 1856-1867 to John A. Roebling's design, it was the first major suspension bridge on the Ohio River and served as a prototype for Roebling's later Brooklyn Bridge. The bridge still carries pedestrians and traffic between Cincinnati and Covington, Kentucky.
