About this postcard
The card shows the bronze figure of Roger Williams standing atop a tall granite pedestal, with an allegorical female figure gesturing at its base, set on a broad stepped platform in Roger Williams Park; behind it, at the left, stands the low gambrel-roofed Betsey Williams House among bare trees. The statue, modeled by sculptor Franklin Simmons, was dedicated in 1877 to honor the founder of Providence. The house, built about 1773, was left to the city by Betsey Williams in 1871 together with the farmland that became the park.
