About this postcard

The view looks through the Royal Gorge of the Arkansas River in Colorado, with a Denver & Rio Grande Western train running along a ledge cut into the canyon wall above the water. The Royal Gorge is a narrow granite canyon near Cañon City, and the Denver & Rio Grande Western's route through it was a celebrated engineering feat of the 1870s. The card's caption identifies the scene as "In the Royal Gorge, Grand Canon of the Arkansas, Colorado" and notes it is on the railroad's main line.
