Royal Palm Avenue by moonlight, Tropical Florida, 1953

Card type
Linen

About this postcard

Moonlight falls down a broad avenue lined with tall royal palms, their trunks and crowns receding into the distance. A full moon and scattered clouds glow in a deep blue sky above the reddish roadway, with low plantings and a white fence along the right side. The printed caption names the scene "Royal Palm Avenue by Moonlight" in "Tropical Florida." Royal palms were a common ornamental choice in South Florida street plantings, and their formal rows give the night view a stately tropical character. The card was mailed by Eunice and Phil, Florida vacationers who called it "purely a beautiful postcard" and wrote that they were enjoying a grand vacation down here while hoping the recipient was feeling better.
