About this postcard
A view down a broad, brick-paved street lined on both sides by rows of tall royal palms, with a single royal poinciana in brilliant red-orange bloom arching over the roadway at right. The printed caption names the scene as First Street in Fort Myers, Florida. Fort Myers grew as a winter resort town in the early 20th century, and its royal palm avenues, planted in the 1920s, became a signature of the city; the royal poinciana (Delonix regia) is a tropical ornamental prized for its summer canopy of scarlet flowers.
