Royal Poinciana tree in full bloom, Florida, circa 1940

Card type
Linen

About this postcard

A single broad-crowned royal poinciana (Delonix regia) stands in full scarlet bloom beside a still blue waterway, with a bank of yellow and pink flowering shrubs in the foreground and a green tree line beyond. The caption names the tree and the state of Florida. The royal poinciana, often called the flamboyant tree, is a tropical ornamental widely planted in southern Florida and the Caribbean, flowering in late spring and summer; linen-era view cards of the 1930s-1950s frequently featured such specimen trees in Florida scenery sets.
