The roofless stone church stands in ruin, its pointed-arch windows and circular window opening exposed to the sky. A tree grows through the broken walls, and the Gothic Revival masonry is weathered and incomplete.
Old Fort Randall was a frontier U.S. Army post on the Missouri River, active from the 1850s until the 1890s. After the post was abandoned, its buildings fell into decay, and the surviving church walls became a landmark in the South Dakota countryside.
