About this postcard
The white-hulled steamer S.S. New York of the Boston-New York Line moves through New York Harbor, passing beneath a large suspension bridge with the lower Manhattan skyline behind. The Boston and New York Steamship Company ran overnight coastal passenger service between the two cities, and its steamers were a familiar sight in the harbor in the early 20th century. A 1935 message written from Portland follows a coastal itinerary through New York, New London, New Haven, Providence, Boston, and Portsmouth, the same corridor the Boston-New York Line served.
