About this postcard
A brick archway topped with a cross frames the Sacred Garden at Mission San Juan Capistrano. Beyond the fountain, a vine-covered wall holds three bells in arched niches, with flowers and shrubs along the paved walk. The bell wall, called the Campanario, was built in 1813 to keep the mission bells safe, and the bells remain there. The larger bells were cast in Spain in 1796 and the smaller ones in 1804, just before the Great Stone Church was completed. The garden sits between that church and the original rectory.
