About this postcard
Sprays of orange and yellow nasturtium blossoms with round green leaves frame the top and right edge of this religious motto card. The printed caption reads "Safety of the Godly," followed by the opening verse of Psalm 91: "He that dwelleth in the secret place of the Most High shall abide under the shadow of the Almighty." Mary sent the card to her aunt in Walton, New York, with a short note that she was well and having a fine time "up here." Motto cards of this kind were inexpensive inspirational keepsakes in the early 20th century, often exchanged as greetings or Sunday-school rewards. Psalm 91 is a well-known passage of protection in Christian and Jewish devotional life.
