Sailboat silhouetted at sunset in a harbor, circa 1940

About this postcard

A painted harbor scene at sunset: a small single-masted sailboat with a furled sail and a few dark figures aboard floats in the foreground, its mast and rigging silhouetted against a sky of yellow, orange and deep red. A low blue-grey shoreline with faint spires and rooftops stretches across the horizon, and a dark blocky structure — likely a lighthouse or pier building — stands at the right. The picture is rendered in an impressionistic, painterly style with strong reflections in the calm water.
