Tall-masted sailing vessels lie moored along the far bank of the Rio Ozama, below a low, tree-covered ridge. A wooded islet and a line of pilings sit in the foreground water, while warehouses and wharves line the left side of the harbor. The river mouth served as the port of Santo Domingo, the Spanish colonial capital founded in 1496, and in the early 20th century it still carried the trade of the Dominican Republic's capital.
Sepia-toned photographic print with a white border at the bottom carrying the printed caption; boxed monogram 'L.E.M.' (Luis E. Manon, Santo Domingo, R.D.) and number '10' at lower left. Light edge and corner wear.
Postmark: SANTO DOMINGO / OCT 29 1906 / REPUBLICA DOMINICANA (plus a faint U.S. receiving mark "AMF / MASS. NOV 10 / 7-AM 19?6"). Divided back, white border, sepia matte print; light edge wear.
