A tinted view of the San Francisco Peaks rising snow-capped above a broad grassy meadow dotted with tall ponderosa pines, with a single small figure seated in the foreground. The range, printed here as the "San Francisco Mountains," is a volcanic field just north of Flagstaff, Arizona, whose highest summit, Humphreys Peak, is the tallest point in the state. The peaks were long a landmark on the route west and are sacred in several Native American traditions of the region.
