About this postcard
Snow-capped peaks rise above a broad grassy meadow dotted with tall ponderosa pines, with a single small figure seated in the foreground. The printed caption calls them the "noble four peaked mountains" north of Flagstaff, visible for a hundred miles and "snow-capped under a turquoise blue Arizona sky"; it gives their height as 13,000 feet, about 6,000 feet above town. The range, also known as the San Francisco Peaks, is a volcanic field just north of Flagstaff, and its highest summit, Humphreys Peak, is the tallest point in Arizona. The peaks are sacred in several Native American traditions of the region.
