An elevated view looks across downtown San Francisco toward the San Francisco-Oakland Bay Bridge. Dense commercial blocks fill the foreground, with a large columned classical building standing out among them; beyond the city the bridge crosses the bay toward low hills on the far shore under a bright sky. The bridge opened in 1937, linking San Francisco with Oakland and the East Bay, and became a prominent feature of the city's waterfront skyline.
