About this postcard

The San Jacinto Memorial Monument rises as a tall obelisk with a star-shaped top above the low museum building, framed by tree branches, with a broad lawn in the foreground and blue sky behind. The monument commemorates the Battle of San Jacinto on April 21, 1836, when Texas forces defeated Santa Anna's army and won independence. The caption gives its height as 570 feet 4 inches, calls it the world's tallest monument, and places it 21 miles from Houston. Completed in 1939, the shaft and museum became a landmark of the Houston region.
