About this postcard
An artist's conception shows the Apollo/Saturn V rocket climbing away from Earth, its white and black stages lettered 'USA' and 'United States' and topped by the Apollo spacecraft and launch escape tower. The printed caption calls it the vehicle 'leaving on the first leg of the moon journey,' launched from Cape Kennedy, Florida, with three astronauts bound for the moon and back, and notes that the Saturn was developed at MSFC in Huntsville, Alabama. The card also carries a 1975 Apollo-Soyuz inscription, 'First Meeting in Space,' and a line for the U.S. Navy recovery force in the Pacific. The Saturn V was the Apollo program's moon rocket; Apollo-Soyuz was the first joint U.S.-Soviet spaceflight, and its crew returned to a Pacific recovery. The postmark falls on the day of that splashdown.
