About this postcard

The Savings Bank occupies a corner in Waltham, Massachusetts. The one-story classical stone building has a heavy cornice, carved panels, tall windows with iron grilles, and a short flight of steps leading to a double-door entrance. A white house and other buildings line the side street at right. Waltham in the early 1900s was a manufacturing city, widely known for watchmaking, and the bank's stone front presented a stable face to a busy commercial center. A handwritten inscription, 'Ethel from uncle Johnny,' suggests the card was kept as a family memento.
