About this postcard
A row of red brick institutional buildings with hipped roofs, chimneys, and white-trimmed windows stands behind a broad lawn and a low white fence, with bare trees in the foreground. The campus belonged to the Nebraska Institution for the Feeble-Minded Youth, founded in the 1880s and later known as the Beatrice State Developmental Center. The name Feeble Minded Institute reflects the period language used for state institutions serving people with intellectual disabilities. In a message sent days before Christmas 1933, Bernice asks her mother in Minnesota for Dickie's address so she can send a Christmas remembrance, and assures her that everything is fine.
