About this postcard

Looking out from the summit of Sunset Mountain, the view crosses rolling green hills and distant blue ridges under a pastel sky, with trees framing the foreground. At 3,117 feet, the summit stands nearly a thousand feet above Asheville and within easy walking distance of Grove Park Inn, the resort hotel that drew early twentieth-century visitors to the mountain city. A 1938 visitor wrote that the train trip took 19 hours and that the scenery was "just like Čechy + Switzerland combined," with fir trees and woods all around even though Asheville was a city.
