About this postcard

A promenade along the artificial lake in Westlake Park, with visitors resting on benches and strolling past beds of orange and red flowers. A red canoe carrying several people moves across the water. Westlake Park was laid out in the 1880s west of downtown Los Angeles, and its lake and flower-lined walks made it a popular leisure ground, pictured often on Southern California view cards. The park was renamed MacArthur Park in 1942, which places this view in the years before that change.
