About this postcard

Strollers and bench-sitters line a flower-bordered walk beside the lake in Westlake Park, with a red canoe and a small boat out on the water and frame houses and trees on the far shore. The park, laid out in the 1880s southwest of downtown Los Angeles, was renamed MacArthur Park in 1942 in honor of General Douglas MacArthur. Its artificial lake, boating and band concerts made it one of the city's most popular pleasure grounds in the early twentieth century.
