About this postcard

A view across the Des Moines River toward wooded bluffs on the far bank, a large tree framing the right side and a pink sunset sky above. A grassy bank fills the foreground. The river gave Des Moines its name and, by the early 1900s, supplied the growing city with water and power. Steamboat traffic on this stretch had faded once the railroads arrived, leaving the wooded banks and hills as a familiar scenic subject for local view cards.
