About this postcard
A dense crowd of excursionists, many in straw boaters and summer suits, fills the Bowery at Coney Island. Signs for Lubin's and Griffins and a bathing advertisement rise above the throng. A small comic figure with an American flag and the words "Greetings from Picturesque America" appears at the upper left. The Bowery was Coney Island's own promenade, named for the Manhattan street of the same name and serving as the main artery of the amusement district. In the early 1900s it was lined with hotels, bathhouses, saloons, and concession stands, and the resort drew huge weekend crowds by steamer and trolley.
