About this postcard

An elevated view looks down over a broad bend of the James River as it winds between steep, wooded hills near Lynchburg, Virginia. A long steel trestle bridge spans the valley in the distance, while a smaller truss bridge and a red-roofed riverside pavilion mark the Y.M.C.A. playgrounds on the near bank. Lynchburg grew as a river and railroad town on this stretch of the James, and the Y.M.C.A. maintained outdoor recreational grounds along the water for its members in the early twentieth century.
