About this postcard

Black-and-white view of Scotty's Castle and its guest lodge in Death Valley, California. The Spanish Colonial Revival buildings have tiled roofs, towers, and arched arcades; palm trees and desert plants stand in front, with barren mountains behind. The complex was built as Death Valley Ranch for Albert and Bessie Johnson and took its popular name from Walter E. Scott, the prospector and showman known as Death Valley Scotty. The Johnsons built the ranch in Grapevine Canyon, and its guest lodge accommodated visitors to the remote desert property.
