About this postcard
A curving stone sea wall and shoreline path run along the edge of Lake Champlain, with a large shade tree, a grassy bank and a horse-drawn carriage at left, and distant headlands under a pink-and-blue sunset sky. The caption names the spot as Shelburne Farms, the model estate and agricultural enterprise established by William Seward Webb and Lila Vanderbilt Webb on the shore of Lake Champlain south of Burlington, Vermont, in the 1880s. The estate became known for its progressive farming and its landscape designed with Frederick Law Olmsted.
