About this postcard
A seated man in Qing-dynasty official dress, an embroidered dragon robe and a court hat with finial and peacock feather, rests on a red-draped chair set on a low platform over a flowered carpet, framed by drawn curtains and a decorative valance. The four Chinese characters above him read right to left as 富貴王溪, apparently a misprint or variant of the conventional auspicious phrase 富貴王侯 ("wealth and honor, prince and marquis") rather than a personal name. Brightly colored popular prints of this kind, sold in numbered sets (this card numbered 10), were commonly reproduced on Chinese postcards around 1900 for both domestic and foreign buyers.
