About this postcard
A seated man in Qing-dynasty official dress — embroidered dragon robe, court hat with finial and peacock feather — rests on a red-draped chair set on a low platform over a flowered carpet, framed by drawn curtains and a decorative valance. The four Chinese characters above him read right to left as 富貴王侯 ("wealth and honor, prince and marquis"), a conventional auspicious phrase rather than a personal name. Such brightly colored popular prints, sold in numbered sets, were commonly reproduced on early twentieth-century Chinese postcards for both domestic and foreign buyers.
