About this postcard
A street view of the Second Regiment Armory on Meadow Street, a large red-brick building with Gothic Revival detailing and tall crenellated towers rising above its roofline, with a trolley car and a horse-drawn wagon in the roadway and a mansard-roofed house with striped awnings at the right. Armories of this type were built as castellated fortresses for National Guard regiments in the late 19th century, combining drill halls with administrative and storage space. The overhead trolley wires and poles along the street reflect the era's urban electric transit.
