About this postcard

A tall granite spire, Sentinel Rock, rises beside the curving roadway of the Needles Highway in Custer State Park, with dark rock walls and pine-covered slopes framing the road. The Needles Highway, completed in 1922 through the work of Governor Peter Norbeck and engineer C.C. Gideon, is famous for its narrow tunnels and needle-like granite formations in the Black Hills. Custer State Park, established in 1919, remains South Dakota's largest state park.
