About this postcard

A domed stone sentry box, or garita, projects from the thick ramparts of El Morro, the Spanish fort begun in 1539 at the entrance to San Juan harbor. The wall curves above a grassy slope and rocky shore, with surf breaking below and open sky beyond. Garitas like this one served as watch posts for soldiers guarding the city and its harbor. The sender's note calls Puerto Rico beautiful and mentions a good meeting, a small trace of travel and work in the early 1970s.
